A new series from the author of the Moonshine Task Force Series!

Laurel Springs, AL is about to be hotter than a mid-August thunderstorm.

When the Moonshine Task Force is absorbed into a new entity, Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team (LSERT) new faces come to town, new love is born, old love is found again, and there’s a plethora of drama and romance happening all over the tri-county area. LSERT puts police, firefighters, nurses, doctors, K-9 handlers, and EMT’s all in harm’s way as they work to keep the area safe from any threat.

Emotions run high, passions ignite.

Come with me, back to Laurel Springs, in what's sure to be a wild ride!

Ransom Thompson

For years I’ve wanted two things - to be a member of the Moonshine Task Force and to be the man Stella Kepler can’t live without.

One out of two isn’t bad, or so I tell myself. Being the only K-9 handler for The MTF presents its own share of obstacles, but me and Rambo? We make it work. Life is status quo, until I’m called in to help with what appears to be a hostage situation and Stella is right in the middle of it.

This is my one chance, and I’m not going to blow it.

Stella Kepler

When I’m stuck in an examination room holding a hurt woman and a man with a gun, I do the only thing I can. I sneak out, call 911 and hope help comes quickly. It does.

In the form of Ransom Thompson.

He and I have known each other since we were babies. Our mother’s are friends, our dad’s work together, and we’ve always been friends.

Only, the last few months I’ve started to notice things. How mature he is, how alpha he can be, the chiseled six-pack, and the abundance of ink spreading across his body.

When I offer to cook him dinner for saving me, neither one of us know how that one moment will change the course of the rest of our lives.

Ransom is the first book in Laramie Briscoe's new series, LSERT, but if you're a fan of this author and have read her MTF series then you'll recognize some of the characters. Ransom and Stella have known each other for years but it's not until they're all grown up that they started seeing each other as more than friends. And when Ransom finally made his move with Stella the chemistry between them shot through the roof.

I really enjoyed these two together and how easy their relationship was. Not saying that they didn't have their ups and downs at times, especially with Ransom working with Stella's dad, but they came together almost flawlessly. There wasn't any angst or drama keeping them apart and instead they moved from the friend zone to more with only a little nervousness, and for me that just made it evident that they really did belong together. It was also a bonus that Ransom was a K9 handler and we got to see some really fun moments with his dog/partner.

I would definitely say this book can be read as a standalone but I do think that it would be helpful to understand the secondary characters that are mentioned if you know where they come from. Even having read the MTF series, and since my memory is pretty shitty, I had moments that I was a little confused who everyone was and where they connected to the original MTF gang. But it's not actually necessary to read those book first. Overall, I would recommend reading this book if you like a sexy officer who is adorably close with his dog.

A typical NA romance. Childhood friendship turns into lover trope. The entire story is not entirely bad. It just need more jazz. More steam. More sassy. More drama. I feel the plot is predictable and flat. This is my first read by Miss Briscoe.

I like Ransom. He has this shyness on him that makes him more vulnerable. While Stella is stronger and kick ass heroine. The chemistry between them is lukewarm. Not enough to keep the story more alive.

Overall a so so read.

4 K-9 Rambo 🌟

I liked it. Good little read! But sometimes I wonder what makes an author named their books with the hero’s name? Why not named their book like their heroine’s? I would’ve liked the title more if the book would have been called “Stella” probably doesn’t sound as catchy or swoony as the hero’s for some readers, right? 😁

Anyway, I liked the heroine. She knew what she wanted and went for it. She’s definitely not a wallflower.
Hero was a good man and a good son. I liked him a lot better because of his dog and his love for his mom. Yeah, yeah... Here I come talking about dogs again. But I will always respect a hero or heroine that loves animals.

K-9 Rambo was so cute and amazing! Loved him and he was the best character in the whole book. So all my stars are for him.

Kels and Nick’s book, I’ll probably skip it. She’s a weak woman when it comes to the hero. And hero’s woe is me whining got pretty tiring in this book. I can’t imagine how exhausting his book will be. The heroine chasing him and not respecting herself when she kept throwing herself at him made her very weak. I liked heroine’s advice for her. She wasn’t the friend who told her to keep chasing him. She told her to be her own hero, to show him that she didn’t need man. Even though she was talking about her own brother.

No rating - DNF at chapter 5.

The MCs first date was one of the dullest things I’ve ever read. All they did was talk about the H’s dog.

And if I can be mean for 2 seconds: the heroines dads name was Renegade.... yes you read that right.

Renegade.

Can we cool it with the “edgy” names. That name sparks cackling laughter for me, not intrigue 😂

A new series by Laramie Briscoe? I’m in! Her first responders are heroic, sexy, strong, protective – and that would be true for the men and women! If you’ve read the Moonshine Task Force then you may, like me, need a score card to remember who everyone is, but quickly will come up to speed with old and new favourites…

Ransom and Stella were friends, growing up together, sharing their families and lives for a very long time. When love hit them unawares, friends to lovers was taken slowly and with a lot of thought. There was a lot at stake given how their personal and professional lives meshed… The opening pages had my heart pounding already with the jolt of action that never gets old. What followed was a love story with a slow build up, no angst but lots of feels as their slow burn caught and ignited…

There was heat, emotion and action, with danger to spare… Another series on my must have shelf! ~Diane, 4.5 stars

Ransom ain’t you handsome !!

This is book one in the Laurel Spring Emergency Response series and it started with a bang. Laramie has done it again and now it’s one of our favorite Captain Havoc’s oldest children. Ransom isn’t some ordinary dude he’s got a fabulous K9, muscles for days and a heart of pure gold. This story takes place and the love between him and Stella has a major run for its money but it is so worth it.
Let’s goooo book 2

This story was a nice romantic story. From the start I liked the fact that Stella and Ransom didn't have any OW drama. Everything was like your normal average romance story.
Two people who liked each other and they started a relationship. From there it was spending time together and getting to know each other better.

Why my 3 starts. Nothing stood out for me. I love drama in my romance books, I love that a guy will fight for you and that sometimes you argue, because that's what makes a relationship work. In this story Ransom and Stella just got together and it seemed like they never argued they never disagree and life was just romance and flowers.
Except when he got hurt. And there wasn't anything out of the ordinary or anything that had you guessing what would happen
Hence the 3 stars.

I loved the fact that we got to see what the Moonshine Task force couples were up to. Other than that I can't wait for Nick's story

I enjoyed this a fair bit. I got a free audiobook from a sale day, so I was excited to give it a go.

It wasn't anything completely original but what is?

On the audiobook side of it... it was a bit over the top with the accents... but it wasn't unreadable for me.

And there was a cute K9 officer.

Every time I read one of Briscoe’s books, I find myself completely caught up in the story. I open the book with every intention of spending time with it, savoring the story, but then I start reading and I can’t put it down! Next thing I know I’ve reached the end, utterly satisfied, yet wishing for more. Ransom was no exception to this. I was drawn into Ransom and Stella’s story. Already feeling connected to their family made me all the more excited and invested. I just loved these two. The way they danced around one another pulled me in. You could feel the connection immediately and then we get a build up that was perfect for them.

I just finished this book and I’m already desperate for the next one!!

Ransom is a new start on a series for Laramie Briscoe with a friends to lovers theme. Ransom has had a crush on Stella for as long as he can remember but Stella just recently noticed that the little boy she grew up with isn’t so little anymore. Coming from a close knit community, these 2 aren’t ready to be exposed in their new relationship so they keep it a secret until something happens that they aren’t prepared for.

This is an easy weekend read with good chemistry and a good story.

Have I mentioned I love Laramie Briscoe's writing? She writes these character driven stories without added drama that leaves me smiling.

Ransom and Stella's story was exactly what I was as hoping for. Watching them get closer after knowing each other their while lives was great. And seeing the MTF guys getting older was perfect. I can not wait for Nick and Kelsea's story!

The Next Generation is coming at us with full force and they are very much their parents in this spin-off of the Moonshine Task Force series. If you read the MTF series, then you know who Ransom and Stella are, and they are all grown up. Stella is the daughter of Renegade and Whitney if you read their book you know their story and if you haven’t read it go before reading this one. Ransom is the son of Havoc and Leigh who you need to read about to before reading this. How about this, read the Moonshine Task Force series and then come and read Ransom and Stella. Ransom and Stella have grown up together and when one incident shows them in a different light, they can’t keep fighting what’s there. After Ransom comes to Stella’s rescue, she invites him to dinner and from that day forward they embark on a relationship more than friendship. It’s a sweet journey of friends to lovers with some hot intense sessions in the bedroom. I love Ransom because he has a little bit of his mom and dad in him that makes him a great combination for Stella. Stella is her mom reincarnated with her sweet and understanding nature. She can be a spitfire and bluntly honest like her dad, but she is Whitney all the way. This is a great start to show how the new generation has grown up. Their story sends a message of if you want something do not wait too long to go after it because it could be gone in a second. I love that we still get that MTF action in the book and the dog is a nice touch Laramie because Ransom just got even more sexier. Their book is a great read my peers and you will not be disappointed. If you have read the previous series get out and do so before reading Ransom.

Reviewer Note: Author Laramie Briscoe rolls her popular Moonshine Task Force series into her new Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team (LSERT) in her latest release Ransom. While this is the start of a new series, the original MTF members and their spouses are featured prominently in this book and I think as a reader you will enjoy this book more having that background especially since this series features many of the offspring and their friends of that group.

There was something sweet about the way childhood friends Ransom Thompson and Stella Kepler began seeing each other in a new light and in Ransom, they finally decide to take a chance and move from friends to more. I liked the easiness of their relationship and while I do like that there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary angst, I did feel like their relationship was a touch too easy.

Every couple no matter how well they know one another are bound and determined to have blowups especially when they are cohabitating for the first time, but Ransom and Stella and Rambo (Ransom’s K-9 partner) fall right into place. That’s not to say there wasn’t a bit of suspense and a few heart wrenching moments, but overall this was just an easy romance; it almost read like a day in a life journal.

I loved seeing the whole MTF guys and their significant others and this second generation is sure to be just as exciting.

Ransom will capture your heart and have you intrigued about what’s to come in the LSERT series.

I liked this sweet, friends to lovers read. The h and H have known each other all their lives, but the h never saw him like that until a few months prior. The H had been interested in her for longer but never felt that interest was returned earlier. The story is told in first person, multi-POV (the main characters’ and a couple of scenes in their parents’ POVs).

Once they both show they’re interested, these two fall together easily and quickly. The H is a cop with a K-9 partner who’s just adorable. The h is a medical assistant who makes time to be with the H despite his crazy schedule. No real drama and no ow/om (neither is a virgin, both have been celibate for a while). There are several steamy scenes and a couple jealous/possessive moments.

Their parents and their close friends were in a prior series so there are a lot of side characters which was confusing sometimes with the number of them. Some of the men had nicknames that were used sometimes but not others adding to the initial confusion until I worked out who was who and the connections. There are some emotional scenes due to an event that happens later in the book that had me tearing up. The book ends with an epilogue a year out that’s sweet and their HEA feels believable and long-lasting.

There were times I wanted a bit more, where a scene fell a bit flat for me or my attention drifted. Which also affected the flow of the story at times for me since this is character and relationship driven. Overall though I enjoyed the easiness of this book and I’d check out more of the author’s books (this was my first read of theirs).

Ransom is the first book in the new series LSERT by Laramie Briscoe and what a book to start with.
Another new to me author for this year and have been binge reading the MTF series in the last two months and loved it so of course, I had to read any new book from this author. Even if they are not connected, we can find characters from the previous series that are making an appearance in this book and was great to read about them again.
Ransom always worked hard to get his dreams to come true and he only wants two things in his life: his job and his childhood friend, Stella, who unfortunately sees him only as a family friend but as life is so unpredictable, he has to save her and becomes her hero.
Stella is frightened but when Ransom saves her she starts to see him as more than her childhood friend, starts to see him as a potential lover that she knows she won't have her heart broken because of his loyalty and dedication towards everything that counts for him and apparently her feelings are shared.

This book is more than Friends to Lovers and the sparks, attraction, banter, and chemistry with every page turned can be felt so strong as you're under the impression that your Kindle is on fire at times and had to have a cold drink for sure. Through their jobs, they are risking their lives every day but that doesn't mean love can't find a way in everyone's heart.

I've been looking forward to reading this book since it was announced by LB and I'm happy to report that it lived up to ALL of my expectations.

I'm a huge MTF fan so it was great to see the guys (older and wiser - and still hot!) with their kids. I was happy that I got a whole lot of Renegade (he owns my MTF-Lovin' heart no matter how old he is ;)).

Now onto the book, Ransom and Stella were great together. I loved their chemistry and the way they connected. Stella didn't give mixed signals and was all about letting Ransom know where she stood and what she wanted. Ransom was sweet and totally alpha, in all the right ways. Ransom's love for Rambo was super adorable and I loved their daddy/doggy connection. I won't say much more than that, because you have to read it to get all the goodness, just know that you'll love it!

I'm super excited to see where this series goes and how much more of our MTF men we will get to see... speaking of, I'm going to re-read Renegade now <3 :)

Laramie Briscoe successfully stole my heart again! Gah! I swear no one writes heroes quite as perfectly as she does. Ransom is everything I’ve come to love from her men and more! All that magnificent, sexy officer goodness combined with major swoon and of course deep family roots full of characters I love made this book unputdownable for me! I’m talking I did not budge once after I started reading until I’d reached the end. I’m not sure I blinked.
Ransom and Stella are best friends and have been their entire lives, but as they’ve both grown up Ransom has felt more than friendship for her. With Stella finally catching on to the fact her best friend is also deliciously sexy the sparks between them start to ignite. These two were both heartwarmingly sweet and so hot they set the pages on fire. That combination held me captivated start to finish.

The cover alone sucks you into this bad boy, you can't go wrong with a hot cover model and with her latest releases Laramie is going BIG when it comes to cover models.

I am absolutely obsessed with not only the cover but the book itself. Mrs. Briscoe is starting the new year out with a bang. Ransom is filled with raw emotion right from the get go and she sucks you in deeper and deeper page by page with this bad boy. I recommend you read het MTF series to fully grasp the emotions in this book, but it totally could be read as a stand alone as well.

If you wanna be rocked and melt into a puddle of mush this book is for you!

The names in this book make it unreadable for me.
Ransom. Dad named Renegade. Aunt Blaze & Uncle Tank
Maybe if they were bikers and not cops.
Plus the action in chapter one, a hostage situation made no sense and was unbelievable in reality.

Ransom and Stella have one of the best romances Ms. Briscoe has wrote! I love, love, love to see the children of the Moonshine Task Force grown up and making their way in the world.

Ransom is the only K-9 handler for Laurel Springs police department, he loves being a police officer, loves Rambo, and loves Stella. Seeing Ransom all grown up and living on his own, spending time and giving advice to his best friend, falling in love with his best friends sister. He still has a love for his momma, a deep respect for his fellow officers and mentors, and keeping Laurel Springs community safe. He’s a little more alpha than his dad, Havoc, which makes Stella love him even more.

Stella is a sweet southern girl with a little bit of sass thrown in. She is learning to strike out a little on her own, and has finally noticed Ransom. He’s watched her for years, patiently waiting until the feelings are returned before making a move. Keeping their romance a secret seems to be okay until life threw a huge curve.

I always say that Laramie has out done herself and I find myself with a new favorite couple after each novel. With Ransom I am sure I have found a new favorite, one that will be hard to top. The chemistry between these two is off the charts, the sweetness balances the dirty perfectly, the bond is something every author hopes to portray. Ransom and Stella work together to give their relationship a good start. The plot is very well developed as are the characters, anyone who hasn’t read the Moonshine Task Force series will not be lost while reading Ransom. If I could walk around town and just hand out copies to everyone I see, I would! Ransom is a novel worth reading, it will not disappoint!!!

Small town romance. Everyone knows everyone’s business and families are tight knit. Good story. Sweet characters. Funny banter. It’s a start of a series that will probably be much of the same. I’ll come back to it.

Ransom is book #1 in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team series of contemporary emergency services romance.

This is a spin off from the Moonshine Task Force Series and features the next generation of characters. If you are familiar with the first series then some of the names will be recognisable.

This is the story of Ransome and Stella; both are children from emergency service families. They’ve grown up together and now as adults they are admitting their feelings about each other.

There is a wonderful canine character who will pull at the heart-strings of animal lovers, plus there are secondary characters who will play their own part in later books.

I thought the story focused on introducing the series and the backgrounds of the families involved, plus the hot romance, more than the emergency service plotline. Having read several books in the Moonshine Task Force series, I expect the police themes will take more focus in later books.

I still need to read the original MTF series (I've only read Renegade's story! Ooops!) but this one called to me this week, so here we are. : )

Normally I don't like when the H/h are hiding their relationship because I think it's silly to do so. I still thought it was silly to do so (as did their parents when they found out) but the author did a good job of describing why Ransom & Stella both felt it was the right thing to do, so it didn't annoy me as much.

I highly enjoyed their story & how everything played out. Also, Ransom's K9, Rambo, is a scene stealing pupper! Not only was there mad chemistry between Ransom & Stella, but she loved Rambo as much as he did, and she made a point to think of him in their relationship, too. It was very sweet!!

Ransom is the 1st book in Laramie Briscoe's new series, LSERT from which is a spin-off of the Moonshine Task Force series.
If you read the MTF series, the main characters for this book are Ransom and Stella- for those who remember Ransom and Stella from the MTF books-- guess what? They are all grown up. Stella is the daughter of Renegade and Whitney if you read their book, you'll know her parents story and if you haven’t - go read it before reading this one. Ransom is the son of Havoc and Leigh- if you read his parents, so good! If not, read his parents story before reading RANSOM!!
Ransom and Stella grew up together, were friends and did bout everything together. They didn't seem to have those feelings for one another until one day when things changed. They’ve always been "friends only" until recently when things have changed; they’ve both been harboring romantic feelings towards one another. It takes a hostage situation for them to finally open up and admit their true feelings and after that, they start spending more time together and their relationship becomes more intense and beautiful. I also loved the cast of secondary characters that were introduced and I am so excited to read more in this new series. There is action, drama, tension, heat, sizzle, twists /turns romance and love that sizzles and steams across throughout all the pages.

My Rating: 4.7 stars *****

Title: Ransom (LSERT #1)
Author: Laramie Briscoe
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 5/5

ARC received in return for an honest review.

Laramie Briscoe is back with a brilliant start to her new Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team (LSERT) series. Times have been a changing for the Moonshine Task Force (MTF) our men are getting older, wiser and even hotter, and with the introduction of the new Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team all emergency forces are merged together bringing us new faces as well as old.

Ransom is the story of Ransom Thompson and Stella Kepler, both of their dad’s work together and their mother’s are friends, they’ve know one another since they were babies and they’ve always been friends only recently things have changed they’ve both been harbouring romantic feelings toward each other. It takes a hostage situation for the pair to finally admit their true feelings after that they start spending more time together and their relationship develops.

This was a relatively drama free romance story, with interesting, likeable main protagonists and equally as interesting secondary characters old and new, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read earning it a well deserved 5 stars out of 5.

I’m really looking forward to seeing more from this series, Nick’s story in particular.

The couple: Ransom and Stella

Romance trope: friends to lovers
Series: Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team
Length: 242 pages

Plot: Ransom and Stella have known each other forever - their parents are best friends after all. But recently, they've been noticing each other as something more. Will they or won't they? (That's literally the plot - nothing more, nothing less. And there's a dog)

Character development: Part of my neutral-ish feelings about this book was based on the fact that I haven't read any of the books in the original series. I had no idea who all the parents were and certainly had no emotional attachment to them or their children. I felt like I was constantly trying to figure out who everyone was, especially given their names - Ransom, Menace, Renegade. I felt like the odd person out at a party. The connection between Stella and Ransom was obviously strong and ratcheted up very quickly once they decided to get together. I liked the dog a lot. He was a great character.

Next book in the series: Suppression

Ransom has had his eye on Stella for years, hoping that she would someday see him the same way. Stella has grown up with Ransom, so close they are almost family. She didn't see him any other way until she suddenly did. Now she is the one hoping that he could see her as more than just a family friend. When circumstances lead to Ransom being her hero, she takes the opportunity to invite him to dinner as a thank you. Now with his dream within his grasp, Ransom will do whatever it takes to keep her in his arms and his life, forever.

I didn't think I could love one of the Laurel Springs boys more than Menace. Then she wrote Cruise and I fell even harder. Now Cruise has been knocked down the list in favor of Ransom! Oh my lord, Laramie Briscoe's books should come with a warning label and possibly a kiddie pool so that when you melt into a puddle you can put yourself back together. Ransom is every cop fantasy come to life. Stella is the girl you root for; are over the moon for when she gets the guy of her dreams. When these two get together it is quite simply magic! Ten stars for Ransom!

Laurel Springs, AL is about to be hotter than a mid-August thunderstorm.

Boy, Laramie couldn't have said it better! Ransom, man oh man, he sure is an excellent way to start out the new year. He is a member of the LSERT, he is the K-9 hottie from the Moonshine Task Force. His relationship with his partner, brought me to my knees at times. His love for Bub, just leaves me in awe.
Stella, she is a wonderful leading lady. She is smart, sassy, spunky, and above all she loves to help others. Her relationship with Ransom has always been in the friend zone. Until she starts seeing Ransom for what he is, a hot, sexy, cop.....

I have read the entire Moonshine Task Force Series, and was patiently waiting for Ransom to hit my kindle. I thought that no one could out do, Menace, and if anyone can come close if not bypass him, Ransom would be the man to do it. I loved the relationship between Ransom and Stella. He treated her with so much love and respect, even when she was being sassy.

I am looking forward to what is to come in the future with this Series. I have a feeling Nick is going to break me and skyrocket past every book before him.
